When I was traveling in South America with my bf, we received terrible news that one of his friends had been in a fatal vehicle crash. As we were processing this news, I couldn't help but imagine how his family and friends must have been feeling. I wrote this song from the perspective of his friend's girlfriend, who powerfully articulated her feelings and experience dealing with her sudden loss on social media in the weeks following. This song is always performed and played with them, and those with similar experiences in mind. Train Song is a grieving song.
lyrics
Train Song
Verse 1:
Waiting for your train on a dark rainy day
I am cold lonely cold
You used to hold me close and warm
But now my arms are stretched sore
‘Cause you don’t come home
Chorus:
And I see your train ‘round the bend
And my gut tells me I’m left for dead
I know you’re gone but still I pray
You will come back to life anyways
I see your train ‘round the bend
And my gut tells me I’m left for dead
And I know you’re gone but still I pray
You will come back to life anyways
Verse 2:
I’m tired of this life
I am jaded I am torn
And maybe I don’t need you like I thought I did
Rest my arms rest your soul
They say you’ll sleep when you’re dead I guess it’s so
Oh so easy to say when you’re not losin’
Chorus:
And I see your train ‘round the bend
And my gut tells me I’m left for dead
I know you’re gone but still I pray
You will come back to life anyways
I see your train ‘round the bend
And my gut tells me I’m left for dead
And I know you’re gone but still I pray
You will come back to life anyways
Outro:
Been waiting for your train on this dark rainy day
I am cold lonely mm
